Gut health: Can you influence your gut microbiome?

The short answer is yes!

With gut health issues, many people experience symptoms of brain fog, fatigue, anxiety, abdominal pain, poor immune health, food intolerance and more!

The gut microbiome is made up of trillions of microbes (bacteria) working in your digestive system. This can be influenced through what you eat, stress, medication, viruses, and many other factors.

To support your gut microbiome, consider these tips!

  1. Embrace diversity: enrich your diet with fibre-rich fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, seeds. Your diet should contain all the colours of the rainbow each week, with a focus on whole foods that don’t have nasties such as additives and preservatives added in!
  2. Supplement: if there are some foods you simply can’t stand eating that hold a key nutrient, consider adding a supplement to your diet that is readily bioavailable for your body to absorb.
  3. Portion your meat correctly: diets heavy in meat may elevate bacteria within the gut that are associated with inflammation. Try eat more plant based foods.
  4. Try fermented foods: these can be great for your gut health! Try kimchi, sauerkraut, kefir and yoghurt to boost the ‘good’ bacteria in your gut!
